From The Prez-
The pace has picked up significantly in the last couple of months. We have more going on and more participation at the meetings. I don’t know if the up-tick is a function of season or the expanded workshop menu at the meetings.
Whatever it is, I want to exploit the advantage. We’re experimenting with an advertisement in the Gazette. I’d be real interested to know if anybody hears from guests that they learned about us from the ad. I figure there is a large population of potential members who just need to attend one of our better meetings to get hooked. The trick will be to get into contact with them one time. After two or three months we’ll decide whether it is worth continuing the ad.
Keep your eyes peeled for announcements about a newly formed chapter of the Western Music Association. This new addition to the regional scene will focus on Western music, Western Swing and Cowboy Poetry. It seems to me we have a lot in common with these folks and we should look for ways to work together.
I want to thank the membership for the high degree of ad hoc volunteerism. It seems like most things just get done without anybody having to organize. That’s particularly important since your president is none too good at organizing things. We could, however, use a couple more volunteers if anybody feels so moved. We need a leader for our intermediate guitar workshop and Wayne could use one or two folks to man a booth at the Celtic event in Stillwater next month. As always, we are open to any ideas you have that would add something to our group. (Ideas are particularly welcome if you are prepared to help make them happen.)
Of course, the really important thing is to make music and share it. A great opportunity for this is the play-around. It is a great way to contribute to the overall experience for everybody. Remember, it’s not so important that the performance be flawless. The important thing is to remind people that our kind of music is for everybody. That’s why they call it ‘FOLK‘!
Now go play something.
